1185-6 - Daniel Muller - $12,250
Circa 1907 from the D.C. Muller & Bro. carousel works, Germantown, Philadelphia, installed at the Williams Grove Amusement Park in Mechanicsburg, PA and parted out in 1977. The leaping elk with the beautifully carved ruff and lovely facial expression exemplifies Muller's mastery of fine details. The figure is harnessed of a fancifully executed saddle displaying a scrolled pommel with nicely detailed parrot heads at the cantle resting on a ruffled skirt and rippled blanket. A breastband with epaulette encircles the chest while the headstall displays a six leaved rosette. Restoration and paint by John Hughes and Lise Liepman. Glass eyes and natural bone antlers. See Marge Swenson, "Carrousel Art," Issue 11, October/November, inside back cover, for a photograph of the elk on the carousel. 51 long x 65 high.
