1186-9 - Daniel Muller - SOLD
Circa 1907 from the D.C. Muller & Bro. carousel works, Germantown,
Philadelphia, installed at the Williams Grove Amusement Park in Mechanicsburg,
PA and parted out in 1977. A beautifully carved ruff and lovely facial
expression on the leaping elk illustrates Muller's mastery of fine details.
The ornately designed saddle having a scrolled pommel with nicely detailed
parrot heads at the cantle and a curvilinear skirt is girthed over a bordered
blanket. The breastband and shoulder strap are pinned by a starred boss
while the headstall displays a six lobed rosette. Restoration and paint
by John Hughes and Lise Liepman. Glass eyes and natural bone antlers.
See Marge Swenson, "Carrousel Art," Issue 11, October/November,
inside back cover, for a photograph of the elk on the carousel. 49 long
x 67 high.
