1237-9 - Illions - SOLD
Circa 1915-1920 wooden figure from the M.C. Illions carousel workshop in Coney Island, NY. In a departure from the usual jumper pose this horse is depicted performing a natural pacing gait highlighting its creator's knowledge of equine anatomy. Its open mouth head is held high on an erect neck and is restrained by a scalloped bridle. An English style saddle is girthed over a bordered blanket; carved disks depend from the scalloped breastband while complementary breeching decorates the hindquarters. Glass eyes, stripped of old park paint. 65" long x 55" high 45" chest-to-rump.
