1242-3 - Looff - $4,800 - SOLD
Rare example of the hobby horse style produced by Charles I.D. Looff long before the origination of his signature Coney Island style. The stander with kicking rear legs is harnessed of a simple elongated saddle with flap resting on a double lobed blanket having a twisted border with a central tassel. A double breastband, one with a scalloped lower border and a tassel, encloses the chest while a loin strap, again with twisted border and tassel, engages the complementary breeching. The glass-eyed head with flipped forelock is borne on an erect neck furnished with a long cascading mane. In very good condition, carved shoes, old park paint, natural horsehair tail. 48" long x 54" high.
