1377-3 - PTC - $15,000
Circa 1930-32 all wood carousel horse from Philadelphia Toboggan Company's carousel #87, first installed at the Asbury Park Casino building in New Jersey. The exceptional steed is an outer row stander with an open mouth head raised on an upright neck adorned with a mane carved in high relief. Extravagant Roman style trappings include a saddle having a recurved pommel, foliated triangular skirt and bordered blanket, the whole resting on lappeted jeweled body armor. Breast and shoulder straps cross the chest and are further overlaid with armor lappets, the headstall and breeching are carved and jeweled while the crupper repeats the armor theme. Layers of old park paint have been removed and the color scheme accomplished with transparent stains which reveal the natural beauty of the wood. Excellent condition. Display stand included. ~56 long x ~60 high.
