1504-3 - Carmel - $8,900
All wood carousel figure from the 1905-1931 carousel workshop of Charles Carmel. The bold outside row jumper, its neighing head tossed above the horizontal on an erect neck furnished with a bi-directional flowing mane, is bedecked with elaborate trappings. An eagle's head and wing emerge from behind the saddle which rests on a blanket incised with lozenges and depending disks and woven fringe. The breast is encircled by a triple layer peytral - scalloped, tasseled and fringed while a tasseled fish scale flanchard flows along the flanks. The glass-eyed head is constrained by a bridle of overlapping plates and a jeweled boss. In very good condition, old park paint, 62 inches long. Includes natural horsehair tail and plank stand with brass.
