Circa 1905 wooden carousel jumper from the Marcus Charles Illions carousel company in New York. The horse carries its glass eyed open mouth head lifted nearly to the horizontal on an upright neck crested with a long forward swept mane in high relief. A simple saddle with a notch in the edge, a fancifully carved skirt and a blanket roll saddle pack behind the cantle rest atop a plain bordered blanket. The whole is secured at the breast by the triple layer peytral having indented and curvilinear borders and at the hindquarters by complementary breeching. Professional restoration in a polychrome color scheme of a white body with trappings in brown, blue and gold. The figure is furnished with glass jewels and a natural horsehair tail. 52 long x 56 high. Provenance: sold at auction, Sotheby's, February 25, 1989.
