1595-1 Charles Carmel - $5,500
Circa 1912-1915 wooden carousel horse from the workshop of Charles Carmel, Brooklyn, NY. The second row jumper carries its stargazing head on an erect neck furnished with a mane of deeply carved sinuous tendrils and an unusually long forelock. A simple saddle with flap and bedroll rests on a fringe bordered blanket having an incised freehand design. Tassels depend from a double layered peytral of scallops and triangles; the breeching sports tasseled roundels and the head is restrained by a bridle of complementary design. The figure, in excellent condition, measures 54 inches long and comes with stand and brass.
