1577-2 - Charles Looff Goat - - SOLD
Turn of the century all wood goat from the Looff carousel works Riverside RI. The dark grey and white prancing Billy with detailed fur carving is outfitted with a saddle terminating in a well-executed winged parrot at the cantle. A fringed breastband further enhanced by parallel veining wraps around the chest and continues under the saddle blanket to become the breeching strap. His expressive glass-eyed head is restrained by a bridle having a brass keeper with embossed thistles. The figure appears in old, perhaps original, paint in a palette of salmon, peach, turquoise, green, yellow and brown with superb inpainting by the late Charles Jakubowski. The horns are precisely accomplished replacements. The overall appearance is that of a very well preserved carousel figure with a nicely aged and patinated surface. 56 inches long x 60 inches high. Brass display stand included.
